About the Crew

Thumbnail - CrewHi I’m Alex and I am originally from Pennsylvania. When I was young my parents started bringing us charter cruising in the USVI and the BVI. I was lucky enough to spend time with my father sailing in the Greek isles and in the Chesapeake before he passed. I studied Computer Engineering at Penn State.

Ok, enough about HIM already!  Let’s talk about ME!! I’m Lisa! I am the one you really want to know about right?

I was brought up in a nomadic environment.  My father was Army Corps of Engineers and we moved frequently throughout my childhood.  We were in Panama when the Panama Canal Treaty was signed and then when I was in high school, we lived in Hawaii. I studied Business Marketing in college in Pennsylvania and Texas.  You could say the travel bug has been in my blood since the very beginning.

We were introduced by a mutual friend who thought we were both crazy weirdos and we would be good match for each other.  He was right!!  Alex shared his passion for sailing with me early in our relationship.   I won’t say that I embraced his dream immediately, but eventually decided to blend his love of the open water, sailing and travel with my own fire to see and experience what the world has to offer.

We purchased our Cabo Rico 38 in July 2013.  We then spent the next six months updating and refitting Tiki Trek to make her our own. We both have the bruises and battle scars to prove it.   We sold our land-based home, vehicles, and personal stuff.  We then cast off the lines in December 2013.

I have completed the ASA 101 Sailing Certification and am pursuing additional training.

I wear the following crowns aboard Tiki Trek:

  • Co-Captain
  • Galley Goddess
  • Laundress
  • Ship’s Persur
  • Chief Provisioner
  • Director of Fun and Moral
  • Student of the Sea
  • Chief Historian
  • and most importantly – Person Extraordinaire

So, as you can see, it’s not easy being me!
